Quin Herron

Artist, writer, musician

Quin Herron is an artist living in San Diego, specializing in Irish traditional music.

Quin works with the Center for World Music as a Teaching Artist, and is also the Chair of the San Diego branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.

Experience

Teaching Artist, Center for World Music (2024-present)

Provides instruction to K-8 students in Irish tin whistle and traditional Celtic songs. Inspires students to tap into their inner musician, as singer and instrumentalist. Helps students learn more about Irish culture and the world around them through music and movement.

Chair, Comhaltas San Diego (2021-present)

Coordinates events, marketing, and education for the promotion of Irish music, song, and dance throughout San Diego County. Initiated monthly educational music sessions. Provides support to educators and musicians for effective growth of the traditional music community.

Paraprofessional, La Mesa-Spring Valley School District (2017-2023)

As a paraprofessional, Quin worked one-on-one and in small groups with students K-8 with various learning difficulties under the supervision of a coordinating Special Education teacher.

Bachelor of Arts, English

University of San Francisco

Graduating with honors, Quin earned his degree in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing and a minor in Music. Quin also studied abroad at Trinity College Dublin and was a member of the St. Ignatius Institute Great Books Program, Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society, and the College Players drama club.

High School

High Tech High International

As a member of the first Freshman class of High Tech High International, Quin engaged in project based learning to gain experience working in groups to achieve long-term goals. As a Rotary Exchange Student, Quin lived in Gembloux, Belgium in 2006.

Traditional Music

Beginning in 2004, Quin has been involved in the learning and playing of Irish traditional music, focusing on the strengths of this music to bring people together and allow for individual expression.

Written Communication

As a published author, Quin understands the importance of the written word to effectively communicate ideas to audiences large and small. With attention to detail and careful word choice, Quin uses precision and concision to create powerful messages.

Teaching and Instruction

Inspired by the Jesuit principle of cura personalis, teaching the whole person, Quin meets students where they are and shows them the next steps in their development, without judging them against a cookie-cutter standard.

Interests

Nature

As an avid hiker, Quin connects to nature through art and exercise. Favorite spots include Mission Trails and the San Diego Nature Refuge. He also believes in connecting to nature through golf.

Poetry

Poetry acts as a combination of all of Quin’s passions: writing as art, creating a musical experience through words. Quin reads poetry on his YouTube channel, performing his own works from time to time.

Philosophy

Quin believes in thinking deeply about the world and our role in it, and has been inspired by the words of Jesus of Nazareth, Lao-Tzu, Confucius, Gautama Buddha, Socrates, and Aristotle.
